Welcome to the second station, The Last Supper. As you approach the table or gaze upon an image of the Last Supper, I invite you to take a deep breath and release it slowly. Settle into the moment. Before you are the elements of the Lord’s Supper—the bread and the cup—symbols of a table set by love, for love.

Hear these words from the Gospel of Luke 22:14-22:
When the time came, Jesus took his place at the table, and the apostles joined him. He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. I tell you, I won’t eat it until it is fulfilled in God’s kingdom.” After taking a cup and giving thanks, he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. I tell you that from now on I won’t drink from the fruit of the vine until God’s kingdom has come.” After taking the bread and giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup after the meal and said, “This cup is the new covenant by my blood, which is poured out for you.
“But look! My betrayer is with me; his hand is on this table. The Human One goes just as it has been determined. But how terrible it is for that person who betrays him.”
Imaginative Prayer Exercise:
Our second prayer station will be an imaginative prayer exercise, where you are invited to enter the scripture, allowing the holy spirit to inspire your imagination.
I invite you to take a deep breath and close your eyes if you are comfortable. Imagine yourself at a table.
You’re in a small upper room. The oil lamps flicker. The table is simple yet sacred. The air is filled with the scent of bread and wine and the quiet murmurs of people you know well.
You’re one of the twelve.
Jesus is just across the table from you.
He looks at you—not just at your face, but deep into your heart.
With a voice steady and full of compassion, He says,
“I have eagerly desired to share this meal with you.”
You watch as He picks up a piece of bread…
He gives thanks, breaks it, and hands it to you.
“This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
You take the bread in your hands. Feel its weight. Let the words settle in your soul: *Given. For you.*
Now, He lifts the cup. Again, He gives thanks.
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, poured out for you.”
You hold the cup. You know this is no ordinary wine. It’s a promise. A gift. A life laid down in love.
Pause here.
What would you want to say to Jesus in this moment?
Now, take one last look at Him.
He knows what lies ahead.
And still—He stays at the table.
Still—He offers Himself for you.
Breathe in His love.
And when you’re ready…
Give thanks.
Amen.
Questions for Reflection:
As you imagined sitting at the table with Jesus, what did you feel when He looked into your eyes and said, “I have eagerly desired to share this meal with you”?
What does that say to you about how Jesus sees you—right now, just as you are?
When Jesus handed you the bread and the cup, what emotions or thoughts rose to the surface?
What does it mean to you personally that His body was given and His blood was poured out for you?
How is Jesus inviting you to live differently because of this meal? Where might Jesus be calling you to carry this love into the world?
You have met Jesus at the table. May you rise from this moment with a deeper sense of His presence, a renewed heart, and the courage to live out His love.
Stay at the table as long as you like. When you are ready, continue to the next station.
